First Time at the TorchLampworking is an ancient craft of taking glass rods and heating the tips until they are molten, then winding the molten glass around a steel mandrel to make a bead. The creative possibilities in decorating that glass are endless and I am constantly amazed at how bead artisans continue to push the envelope of creativity.

I took my first lampworking class in December 2003 after admiring the beautiful handmade beads on Ebay and at a local bead show. For a long time I thought of it as more of a craft than an art. But, when I started to "see myself" in my beads, I became intrigued by glass as an art form.

I like to create beads in simple and organic styles. I combine a little simplicity to satisfy the "purist" in me, with a little alchemy, to express my more complex, exotic side. It has been, and continues to be, an adventure in getting to know myself better and making peace with my world.

Lampworking has opened so many new doors in my life. However, the most important rewards have been the unexpected sensation of others admiring my work, and making new friends all over the world who share my passion.

Mom and Dad - For continuing to sacrafice for me to reach for my dreams even as I figure out what they are. I'm undeserving but always so graced by your love. Also, thanks for liking my wierdest stuff. Can we hang it on the fridge yet?

Lisa Atchison Where do I even begin? You're my hero in so many ways. Your confidence inspires me and your perserverance amazes me. I'm blessed to have you as a pea in my pod! "We have eyes like twins; Where your last thought ends my next begins." Above all, thanks for bringing out the dork in me.

Jake - My big little. You are such a giver. I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you more than anything. You make my life fun. How did I get so lucky to be your aunt?

Ben Wild thang, I think I love you! I so admire your passion and talent for music and your unique soul. Stay on the straight and narrow. I'll always love you more than you think.

Linda and Glenda - For your sheer delight over my meager talent. You'll never know how much that means when I hit those creative road blocks. You are a wonderful people and I am so lucky to have you in my circle of friends. Promise to always stay there.

Zoe - You mean little black dog! Wooooooo, WOOO! Go get your bowl!

ISLAGA.org, ISGB.org, lampworketc.com, wetcanvas.com - For countless friends, facts, resources and sources of inspiration.

Jesus Christ - For making me special and sharing glimpses of your agony and love.
